In a brief post on Facebook Mark claims his team has worked out how to reduce the filesize up to 80% using so called Pyramids instead of cube maps. Check out the video below for more information.

360 video is a completely new experience because you can move the camera around. This opens new ways of sharing experiences and makes you feel like you’re part of what you’re watching. It’s a step towards even more immersive experiences. — Mark Zuckenberg.

Star Wars 360 making of video

Recently I was able to see in action how a 360 movie is shot. The crew had 4 different 360 rigs. 6xHero4 Sessions rigged together using a custom 3D printed holder. Thanks to CoOperate Orchestra  and a bunch of passionate Star Wars fans the shoot was directed in with 360 video in mind. Everytime the director had to tell people what to do and hide from the camera’s view.  Darth Vader (maestro), Storm Troopers and many other cool characters that showed up on set. The 360 video is produced by VMG ad agency .
See the making of below:

The 360 footage is currently in post production and link will be posted here anytime soon. Stay Tuned!
