360 video is getting mainstream. Facebook with ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) the legendary Lucas film company has released a short clip that lets you sit in a cockpit of a space racer.

Facebook has taken a different approach to the 360 format. They basically split the image into small rectangles and the FB player arranges them in order into a seamless 360 experience. Currently works on Android with iOS version coming in the next months.

Still waiting for them to introduce 3D-360 video and watching how fast the technology evolve makes me think it will really be soon.

The quality and stiching is great, but unfortunately we get blind spots at the top and bottom! This seems a little bit dissapointing considering the camera’s price tag and  what companies are behind the project like GoPro and Google.

Odyssey is available in a limited access program. You will need to sign up in oder to purchase the camera. It has a $15.000 price tag and is targeted to producers and professionals.
